Soapbox Science Aberdeen
Heidi Gardner took part in Edinburgh’s Soapbox Science event in 2017 as a speaker, discussing clinical trial recruitment with members of the public in the pouring rain. She thoroughly enjoyed the event and returned to Aberdeen with the hope of bringing Soapbox Science further north. She spoke to colleagues Dr Heather Doran and Dr Heather Morgan about the possibility of bringing Soapbox Science to Aberdeen, and after a few planning meetings, a lot of thought, and equal amounts of excitement and caffeine – the group decided that they could pull it off. Heidi got in touch with Dawn Smith, Public Engagement Officer at Edinburgh Napier University and one of the organisers of Soapbox Science Edinburgh, to find out how to bring Soapbox Science to north east Scotland – and the rest, as they say, is history.
